1/52

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013
{Harper} Usually full of movement and activity, a moment of stillness. I think the heat sedated her.
{Finn} Kicking around in the local pool with a wide smile that didn’t ease up all day.

Well, I’ve had a week of complete indecision. After wrapping up Project 366 I really couldn’t face continuing this blog and was pretty certain that the end of the project would see the end of the blog. The daily grind of capturing, uploading, editing and finally blogging wore pretty thin come the end of December and the thought of keeping the blog up really wasn’t sounding that appealing when the new year rang in.

As the week went on I kept taking photos each day (Yes even on Jan 1- seriously what’s up with that?) and knew that I wanted to complete another project this year. Good lord not a photo a day but something that I could manage and that would keep my interest in photography and my compulsion to document our family life going. So, Project 52 it is. One portrait of each of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013. 104 photographs for the year. I can do that.

Today after thinking about how I am going to sustain this project (and a little encouragement from family and friends) I decided that I would blog this project. I need accountability. I need something that will make me get those many, many images off my camera. Posting the photos once a week will help me stick to an editing pattern and hopefully encourage me to aim a little higher with my photos and learn a few new techniques along the way.

So here I am again. Wise descision? Well, we'll see.....

The B-sides (because two photos seems a little minimalist for me…)
{i get out now}
{"mummy, no more pictures of my curlies"
"but, finny how can I not?"}
{fish lips}
{hello my little kitchen helper}
{ice-cream headache}

  1. Oh i love it all. The fact that you're doing this project, that you're continuing blogging and that you couldn't help but share more than two photos!

    This post Finn is just hilarious, the curls, the fish lips and the ice-cream headache all made me giggle. Too cute!

    1. Why thank you Andi :) There is no way I could settle for just two photos. Not my style at all ;)

    1. I am glad we are doing it again together this year. You have been a huge support this past year and I look forward to cheering each other on again this year.
      Yep, Finn is looking a little different in these photos. I'm blocking out that come March he will be five.

  3. Super cool Amber, so glad that you're going to do a project this year, it seems totally manageable and I will enjoy following along! I have tried all year to get a close up curly hair photo I was happy with, but never got one, mainly because my subjects would not stay still enough, so I am impressed with the beautiful one you have here, love it! And I have to add that I love the one of Harper getting out of the pool, so beautiful!

    1. Anything seems manageable after our efforts last year! I'm thinking this will be a walk in the park :P
      Thanks for the comment on the curls photo. Finn wasn't impressed that I kept asking him to stay still/turn this way/no this way! BUT he was holding an iceblock so he had bigger matters to attend too ;)
      You may not have gotten a close up, but you did get an large amount of shots that highlighted those rockin' curls all three of your kids have :)
      Thanks for your lovely comment Rachael!

  5. fantastic!! your images are as beautiful as your darling children. i was soooooo relieved when I wrapped my daughters 366 project in April and the whole experience caused me enough grief that I can't bring myself to commit to another project for a long long time. but i do still update my blog with her shenanigans.

    1. What a kind comment Shabana - thank you!
      While I am jumping in again, I do understand why people have a break from any form of "project" after they complete a 366!

  8. Hooray for Project 52! So glad you are continuing Amber, I've really enjoyed your project and also the many lovely posts you've written on parenting and the like. I had a little giggle to myself though when after your first two photos, a whole lot more came after! It is VERY hard to pick just one each isn't it??

    1. Thanks so much Sarah! I really appreciate your comment. So glad that you have read some of my parenting posts. I always feel like I am waffling on when I open up a bit about my parenting approach and challenges so it's lovely to hear your feedback :)
      I could never pick just one each. I don't have that kind of discipline :P

  9. Yay! You're blogging again. Nothing like a little peer pressure huh? ;)

    I LOVE the two pictures you chose, especially Finn's gorgeous grin, but I especially love the 'b sides'. Awesome idea. Two pictures is DEFINITELY not enough :)

  10. I'm soooo happy you decided to post more than 2 photos! They are all stunning!... I can't even begin to pick a favorite. A few that stand-out for me though are the first picture of Harper, the picture with dad, Finn being thrown in the air, those curly whirlies!! and the kitchen helper. Amber, your kids are gorgeous. How do you manage to get anything done other than stare and marvel at them??

    1. There is no way I could do just two :P
      If only my two kids would let me just stare at them all day! It would make this parenting gig a lot easier! ;)
      Thanks for your lovely comment Faith.

  11. When I saw these photos a few weeks ago I felt completely moved by how great they were and what intimate portraits of your beautiful children you had managed to capture. You were a great photographer during 366 but somehow you have upped your game! And the photos of Miles' birth are just so wonderful. I am so happy you are still blogging.
