A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013
{inspired by Jodi}

{Harper} Eyelashes that almost touch her eyebrows.
{Finn} Sending my first-born off to Pre-school. He was happy, confident and ready for new adventures.

The B-sides (because two photos seems a little minimalist for me…)
{an early morning backyard find}
{"I brushed my curls Mum"}
{Collecting produce from our garden. So very satisfying}
{a new book tradition begins. Finn & Harper were both gifted a school themed book the day before they began Preschool and Playschool. At the beginning of each school year I plan to record a message to them inside each book}
{Ten minutes until the first day starts. Waiting patiently, with a touch of nerves.}
{Connecting with one of the school displays}
{Finn was quick to engage with the table activities. Little sis joined in too. Of coarse.}
{Harper's turn. Starting Playschool. I believe she was clicking her fingers here and saying "hurry up Mum". After seeing her big brother go through two years at the same Playschool she was BEYOND ready to start}
{ice-cream is always better with sprinkles}
{Two full days of Pre-school equals one very tired boy}
{after a week where a great deal of energy and attention was directed towards Finn, Harper was due some quality one on one Mumma time. By chance, the night before I found out that 'Aladdin' was screening at our local cinema. So with every Princess item from the dress up box on, we headed off for Harper's first movie experience. Harper's verdict "It was good. It was a bit sad, a bit funny and also a bit scary"}

  1. Oh Finn, he looks so ready and yet so small on his first day of pre-school. I love the photo of him with his curls brushed too, you can clearly see the similarity to Harper in that photo.

    Love that you and Harper had mummy-and-me time together and I adore that she dressed as a princess! And that last shot of you and Haper together is stunning.

    Oh and yes, the book tradition is so YOU and such a great idea! How special for Finn and Harper to have that collection as they grow up!

    1. He does look a little small in that picture. I think it is the massive hat I bought him! I also bought him a huge t-shirt so we would get two years out of his uniform ;)
      Thanks for your lovely comment. You know that I'm not a fan of putting up photos of myself so it's nice to get such supportive comments :)

  2. I just love that last shot of you with Harper, Amber. You get the best shots of the two of you together! It's especially poignant to me b/c my first born baby girl will be 18 this year, yet I still remember her tiny like Harper. I so wish I had some special photos like this one to see what my heart so well remembers. Note to self: I must capture some of these moments with Blossom!

    1. Awww Lisa it is so wonderful that you have those precious memories of when your big girl was a toddler. I just wish you had photos of the two of you together too. It is when I read/hear about stories like yours that I push myself to get photos of myself with the kids. I don't like it (and my husband doesn't like it when I boss him around while he gets the shots ;) ) but I do it because I want them to have photos of ME with them to look back on.
      Yes! Go on, get in the picture with Blossom. I bet the two of you make an adorable pair :)

  3. The last picture is just darling, as is Finn asleep after his busy days. The book is such a great idea! I might snag it for when V is starting school.

  5. I agree, the last photo is just gorgeous and inspires me to get more shots like that.

    I love your new school tradition, and your outing with Harper sounds perfect. You're going to have such an awesome record of your days with your little loves, you had so many fantastic shots this week, Amber!

  9. Gorgeous Amber! I especially love the one of you and Harper. That will be a special one to treasure. So glad Finn enjoyed his transition to pre-school. I always get so nervous that everything will go smoothly, it's a such a big event. I love the chronicle of this week and I want to see a photo of Finn in that hat at the end of the year to see how much he's grown!

  10. Oh yes, last shot so beautiful! I love Harper dressed up in all her princess gear, it is such a sweet phase in the life of a little girl. Well done to Finn for starting Pre-school, love that shot of him all tuckered out. Loving your weekly portraits too, it will be great to see them all together at the end of the year.
