A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013
{inspired by Jodi}

{Harper} Keeping a eye on Daddy (he's in the yard)
{Finn} We recycle our water for the garden....except once a week I let Finn water the garden with a hose to allow him to re-enact a fire emergency or two. Firefighter Finn thinks this break from water conservation is totally worth it.

The B-sides (because two photos seems a little minimalist for me…)
{working hard to capture a blue sky. Goodbye blown out sky of the past, thanks to tips from this awesome photographer}
{Finn: "Mum, can I show you my thinking face?"
Me: "Go for it."
Finn: "So what do you think of my face?"
Me: "Nailed it buddy, nailed it."}
{safety first}
{'sam fireman' = 'fireman sam'}
{my craft helper}
{self-covered button hair ties. I may or may not have created more without my "helper"}
{reading a letter from Nana}
{seeking out new light in our house. inspired by this fabulous photographer}
{taking a moment to capture these lush green trees before autumn approaches}

  1. So many great photos this week, Amber! Finn the firefighter is adorable! I love the perspective you captured of Harper on the slide looking down on the world, and the blue sky is indeed very pretty. I need Tarnya to pass along her tips to me too. :-) Your little craft helper makes me smile. I'm looking forward to the time when Blossom can craft with me too. (Only I don't want the time to pass too quickly b/c I'm enjoying her so much at the age she is!) I like the light in the letter from Nana shot. I can tell you are experimenting and learning and growing in your photography too. isn't it fun?! I really enjoy having this group of women to celebrate life with and to be inspired in my own photography.

    1. Thanks so much for noticing that I have been experimenting this week Lisa! I have been trying (like Nicole) to zone in a little more on my skills. I have to say with my models it has been very frustrating, but I will keep at it! The moment I give Finn and harper any sort of instruction once I am behind the camera, they are outta there! Grrrr...
      I am too enjoying the sharing of knowledge and inspiration in our group too :) Pretty amazing bunch of women in that group hey?

  2. Amber, these photos (as usual) are so cool!! I really enjoyed them, particularly the skills you used in not blowing out the sky in the slide shot.
    As Lisa said above, I think I need some little tips on how to achieve that myself! ;)

  5. Oh, I love that photo of Harper peeking out of the window! There's something about it, and the processing, that feels very retro to me, like a photo from the 1950s. Beautiful skies, and Sam the Fireman is awesome!

  7. Awesome sky shots! I particularly like the one of Harper....the reflection is great and she looks soooo adorable and cheeky!

    The thinking face made me laugh. Yep, he nailed it :-) Another stand-out for me is the letter opening photo. Love the perspective and lighting.

    I can't remember exactly how old Finn is but I'm sure he's at least a year or two older than Silas. I guess I can look forward to the fireman obsession sticking around for awhile

    1. Thank you Faith!
      I'm really happy with that letter opening one. I wanted to capture how excited yet serious they get when they get mail addressed just to them. Finn was trying so hard to read the letter, spotting words he knew. It was very cute to see.

      Finn is 5 this month. His fireman obsession started just before he turned 3. The intensity of his interest hasn't weakened during that two year period. I thought it may have been a phase, but no!

  8. You've inspired me Amber! Your shots this week are gorgeous. I especially love the one of the two kiddies reading Nana's letter, so precious. I also love the little conversations you record between you and the children - priceless memories.

    1. Thanks Sarah! I saw your great post this week and was very surprised to see my blog linked :) Thank you :)
      I try to record the funny things the kids say (Finn in particular seems to come up with some crackers!)and jot them on here and in a little book I have. Should make for some good reading in the future me thinks!

  9. I was thinking about how though you are often the blog I spend longest staring at I find it so hard to write a comment, and came to the conclusion that your posts are just overwhelmingly good, and there is no sound-bite way of expressing what you do. You get better every week and you just make everything so beautiful. The light in the letter from Nana and the trees behind Finn in the final shot and everything else, you just keep this project fresh for me. Thank you.

    1. Julia, you are always so generous with your comments regarding my photos. I am always so touched by what you write.
      I am trying to improveeach week, trying new things and get creative. Some weeks I feel like I fail and other weeks I good about what I put up. I guess the main things is that we keep going and keep aiming to capture what childhood is all about in our photosgraphs :)
      Thanks again lovely one. x
