A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013

{Harper} A trip to the Annual Canberra Show. Our first as a family. There were animals, clown shows, rides and showbags but all the kids had their sights set on was a soft serve ice-cream. An hour and a half in, it bucketed with rain and we started to plan how we were going to get the kids back to the car. Running in the rain, Finn spotted the ice-cream van and reminded us about his ice-cream wish. We were drenched already, so adding dripping soft serve ice-creams at this point didn't actually seem that ridiculous. In reality it was, but the kids loved every moment of it.

{Finn} Planning his ferris wheel ride. Pesky rain meant we didn't even make it over to the rides.

Link Love: There are a huge collection of bloggers who are participating in Project 52 via Che & Fidel. Jodi has encouraged us to share our favourite portrait from another blog from the previous week. Last week I loved the photo and story behind it over at Lamb loves Fox.
The B-sides (because two photos seems a little minimalist for me…)
{what rain?}
{listening to an audio book in his sister's room}
{three solid days of rain. this kind of weather is pretty much unheard of in canberra}
{rain, hail or shine we walk to school. living six doors down from finn's school I kinda take that as a given}
{catching raindrops}
{checking for spiders}
{a gardening class with friends. this was pretty much the perfect playdate. read all about it  here}
{soaking up the instructions and information}
{harper is what I would call an expressive talker. her face moves constantly as she chats. eye rolling, eyebrows lifting, mouth curling; she says just as much with her facial expressions as with her words. for a while now I have been trying to capture her in "talk mode", but with limited success. This week I took on board an idea from jodi over at che & fidel and asked her open ended questions as I snapped away. I kept the conversation rolling and quietly pressed the shutter release. it worked a treat.}
{she's never far behind}
{lemon face}

{inspired by Jodi}

{Harper} Keeping a eye on Daddy (he's in the yard)
{Finn} We recycle our water for the garden....except once a week I let Finn water the garden with a hose to allow him to re-enact a fire emergency or two. Firefighter Finn thinks this break from water conservation is totally worth it.

The B-sides (because two photos seems a little minimalist for me…)
{working hard to capture a blue sky. Goodbye blown out sky of the past, thanks to tips from this awesome photographer}
{Finn: "Mum, can I show you my thinking face?"
Me: "Go for it."
Finn: "So what do you think of my face?"
Me: "Nailed it buddy, nailed it."}
{safety first}
{'sam fireman' = 'fireman sam'}
{my craft helper}
{self-covered button hair ties. I may or may not have created more without my "helper"}
{reading a letter from Nana}
{seeking out new light in our house. inspired by this fabulous photographer}
{taking a moment to capture these lush green trees before autumn approaches}

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013
{inspired by Jodi}

{Harper} She suggests making cookies and cakes just to lick the beaters.
{Finn} A visit to Cockington Green. Finn was fascinated by the miniature buildings and moving trains.

The B-sides (because two photos seems a little minimalist for me…)
{Finn's favourite section at Cockington Green. A street with a garbage truck. We came back to this spot at least five times}
{a treat to end Mummy and Finn time.}
{An eagerly anticipated parcel was left on our doorstep earlier this week. Inside, a book fetauring photos from last year's Documenting Delight project. It is great to have the slideshow but nothing beats having your photos in print. This book is my gift to Finn and Harper.}
{the first person I wanted to share the book with}
{playing co-operatively, speaking pleasently towards each other and being kind. watching this little play scene evolve was the highlight of my week}
{....it was short lived. Harper's "That's mine" face/scream}
{"Eli these are my new shoes. Look they have butterflies on them!"}
{imaginary binoculars on, ready to spot Daddy riding home from work}
{"Stop Finny!"}
{On our way to the movies with her dear friend Lily (yes another movie. there's a Disney Princesss film festival on at our local cinema. I'm totally indulging her inner princess), I needed to scope out a location for a photoshoot for a friend. I wanted to take a few test shots to see if this park would work. Never the one to go along with any posed shots, Harper was on to me. Look at the disinterest on her face. gah! }
{not just a movie but Kate and I took the girls out for lunch too. So decadent!}
